We are MD Weight loss, a group of physicians passionate about helping our clients set and reach goals they never dreamed were attainable…the people who have tried everything and feel as though they have failed and there is no hope. More than ever before, people are turning to the internet to find information on weight loss hoping to improve their health. As physicians, it is important to us that our clients have the most up to date, reliable and relevant information possible not only to help them lose weight but to help them improve their overall health and manage disease.

We want our clients to be able to access quality information and resources to help them follow a low carbohydrate / ketogenic weight loss program. We promise to keep learning and bringing you the most up to date information as it becomes available to us. We have seen success with hundreds of people being able to lose weight, maintain that loss, discontinue medications, delay or eliminate the need for surgery and overall improve their quality of life. Family Physician

Dr. Laura-Lea McKay

Hi and welcome to MD Weight Loss. I have spent the past number of years researching and practicing weight loss medicine as part of my family practice. I'm excited to help you too!

Hi and welcome to MD Weight Loss, I’m Dr. Laura-Lea McKay. I am a graduate of Dalhousie Medical School which is where I went on to complete my residency in family medicine in 2000.

By the time I finished medical school, long hours, stress and some poor choices resulted in me gaining about 50 lbs. Once I was in residency, I realized I needed to do something myself if I was going to be able to help patients needing to make lifestyle changes. It’s really hard to be the obese doctor trying to tell any patient they need to lose weight!

So, I started my journey to better health. I started eating better and getting regular exercise despite the fact that exercise was something I seriously loathed up to that point in time! By the time I finished residency I had lost the 50 lb and was ready to start my first job.

Once I got out in the real world of practicing medicine, I quickly realized that a lot of it has been focused on being reactive, not proactive. We were treating people after they got sick, not helping them prevent illness.
In 2014, I was at a medical conference and went to a lecture on the management of metabolic syndrome. I realized there was a better way to help patients lose weight and manage chronic disease through diet and exercise.

Since then, I have worked to implement these strategies into my practice and have continued to learn and hone my skills. My goal is to do my best to help you be a happier, healthier, more awesome version of the amazing individual you already are!

Hello friends, my name is Dr. Jonathan Chan I am a physician certified in both Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine.

Hello friends, my name is Dr. Jonathan Chan I am a physician certified in both Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine. Over the last two decades, I have had experience with the full spectrum of practice from infants to seniors, chronic disease and seeing the devastating complications in the Emergency Room such as heart attacks and stroke. These cases and experiences highlighted the importance of prevention and proactive care. I embarked on a decade long search for a solution to help my patients. After experimenting with various diets and weight loss programs, we were able to develop a program which resulted in proven success for patients.

The most satisfying part of my practice is now helping patients accomplish their health goals. Whether it is losing weight, having more energy, decreasing or eliminating medications - it’s all possible through healthy nutrition when you learn what to do and how to do it!

We are thrilled and honoured to be a part of your journey to help you reach your health goals.

We do our best to provide a personalized approach to weight loss. We are all unique so, while general principles still apply, the day to day practice may be a little different for everyone. We take a low carbohydrate approach but adapt as needed for each individual.
