Change is possible! Mark’s story.

Hi I’m Mark a hardworking family man. Like you I had a serious weight issue that developed after decades of eating what I wanted and what I thought was good for me. For the first 35 year of my life I thought I was quite healthy and generally avoided the doctor. Sound familiar? The next 25 years I began to develop many chronic health issues. The good news was, as I began to develop a host of chronic health issues “big pharma” had a pill to keep me going without ever addressing the root cause of my ailments.

I tried so many diets: calorie restricted, plant based, two different medically supervised plans, special foods that you order. Generally they were all focused on eating very few calories. I could lose weight for a short period of time and then bounce back! Sound familiar? You’re not alone, and if you’re in this program you are in a great place! You see what was missing for me was not just the what you eat, but what happens inside your body when you eat.
So I was referred to the clinic by my sleep doctor where I was being treated for sleep apnea. I really didn’t want to go, but for some reason I did, and what a game changer that was! I started my program in the fall of 2020, telling myself in my mind I would give this a go for 3 to 4 months. Well, nearly 2.5 years later, I’m still on the program and here is why:
- I have reversed my type 2 diabetes and no longer take any diabetes medication
- I no longer have sleep apnea, the sleep doctor that referred me to the clinic was delighted to tell me no more CPAP!
- No more chronic asthma, off all of the puffers and pills
- I lost 135 pounds and have kept if off for over 1 year
So my key learnings:
- Material change takes time, I didn’t get this big overnight so losing the weight took me a year
- You will never exercise your way out of a bad diet, if you follow the food pyramid your not going to lose weight by exercising.
- Artificial sweeteners were introduced to our diets over 40 years ago, I’ve never seen a person lose 10 pounds drinking diet soda , so I finally gave it up.
- Keto packaged foods are everywhere and, although they sound good in general, they will just slow down your progress and they are usually quite expensive. Avoid them.
- Make sure you take some before pictures and measure so you remember where you came from.
- Get the garbage food out of your house to reduce temptation.
Be honest with yourself and your doctor. I remember a few times where I actually gained weight. I knew it was not from drinking too much water but rather the 1 kilo bag of salted almonds I ate that week, be real. You will have setbacks and that’s OK, it happens to all of us.
Never give up! If you slip, get back on track, be persistent you will get there.
Find a great doctor. I found that in Dr. McKay. She is a bit of a maverick which was just what I needed to be successful with MD Weight Loss.
My best tip is invite your spouse or a close friend to join you on your journey. My incredible wife, who is super healthy, said she would eat whatever I did. It made it so much easier to execute the program when we had the same food on our plates. Everyone in our home has enjoyed the benefits of healthy eating.
You will be surprised how fast your body will heal when you consistently follow the program.
I’m not hungry all the time anymore, crazy, right?
I know if you want to live a healthier life, you’re in the right place with the best doctors but please remember this; your health is your health, no level of government, medical professionals or drug companies are responsible for your health, you own it and you can do it!
Always keep your chin up!
Mark
